“Hey Everybody this is Aras Ilkmen, I am from Turkey and I graduated from Crown Institute of Studies last year in May. It’s a very long story why I’ve choose Crown but basically after I’ve done my high school degree about Tourism and my University Degree back in home which was Tourism and Hotel Management again, (I’ve been in tourism industry since I was 12 years old and have lots of experience in hotel and hospitality business).

I wanted to upgrade my education in better level because I knew I needed more challenge for my education and most importantly for my carrier in the future, so anyway we ended up by searching quite few courses and prices and it’s also their features and background and it’s ended up us choosing Crown for me because it was very close to my vision and concept was completely similar what I was looking for! But guess what, I was wrong because Crown has more than that!

I started to work at Mezze Bar as soon as I came to New Zealand and after I graduated from Crown I got better position and pay rise, because I had the qualification which not many people have! So grateful for that:) It was unbelievable experience for me to studied at Crown and it was incredible achievement, it is very hard to explain by the words but Crown provides education and student services which no other school can, the first time in my life I’ve been experience to one on one education. I’ve been best memories with my friends there, as an English second language speaking overseas student and the tutors are the best no question about it! I really have to thank all tutors from Donna to Rachael, Naomi and of course one and only Tracey I’ve have best memories with her and she helped us incredibly much! “I am from India , I finished my 52 weeks course of national Diploma in Hospitality Management last December , right now I am working as a Head Chef for a indian resturant in Totara Park, Upperhutt , Wellington.  I do not know exact reason why I choose Crown to study when I was in India , after finishing my course , I am sure that Crown Institute is a professional institute for travel and hospitality.  I am very sure about the above statement because , as a international student I was very happy with the way I was treated on the arrival and with a lovely educational atmosphere at Crown.

I would like to discuss about my tutors, Mrs Shobana Mitra was my first term tutor, she was so kind and her teaching tech was simply wonderful, she was handling business communication .  The second phase of my study was food and beverage, Troy, a energitic and a brave tutor with a lot of experience in teaching and hotel industry, he provided a wounderful session of food and beverage theory and practical.  Then for the rest of the two phases it was my ever gifted college life in life time, that is with my respectful tutor Mrs Tracey Warren, what a tutor she is, she is very talented and she know how to handle with different type of people, we (about 40 students) of hospitalty management students were enjoyng our 6 months studies and we all were well trained in the hospitality management because of Tracey. Kharn was our top  for the year of 2009. Kharn was offered work experience at Go Holidays and successfully got a position as a Documentation Consultant. He has recently been promoted  to Shorthaul Wholesale consultant.

Anthony studied the Crown Certificate in International Travel, Tourism and Airline Studies.

Anthony was one of our top students and received a Scholarship with New Caledonia Tourism. 

He now works for Go Holidays as a Shorthaul Wholesale consultant.

Industry Expo

We were proud to boost fourteen great industry representatives for our bi-annual Industry Expo for the travel and hospitality department.

Contiki, Mike Henry, STA Travel, ATTTO, Nomads, Function Staff, Accor Hotels, Showcase Hospitality, SkyCity Careers, Hospitality Standards Institute, Careers Services and Quinn Recruitment.  Absent from the day due to illness- Menzies Aviation, Crowne Plaza.

Our food and beverage students hosted representatives on our roof top student lounge. During the day they experienced top quality espresso coffees, finger foods – such as mini savory scones, traditional club sandwiches and chocolate brownies.

From three hours students had the opportunity to discuss job roles available in the industry and were given tips on how to stand out. Some of the tips – ‘know why you want to work for a particular company and why you want to get into a particular job role is vital to your success.’ Many students were asked for CV’s and learnt the dying art of networking.

The Food and Beverage students were the highlight of the day displaying amazingly professional skills and attitudes. On the basis of this service representatives received they want to come back….. again and again!

I recently went to visit our successful graduates at Go Holidays!

All the students completed our Certificate in Travel, Tourism and Airline Studies. They all had top attendance and achieved well academically. However they were successful with finding a job because of their attitudes and work readiness! All students had prepared CV’s and knew what types of job roles they were looking for.
