Crown Institute of Studies is known to produce excellent, work-ready graduates and the December 2011 graduates are certainly examples of this.

Paige Olliver and Danielle Metcalf, graduates from the Crown Certificate in International Hospitality – Hotel Services and Reception Operations course, have already secured great jobs at top-notch hotels.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing staff at Crown Institute of Studies and the skilful lessons provided to us,” says Paige.

Paige is now a receptionist at the Sky City Grand Hotel and Danielle is a receptionist at the Copthorne Hotel.

Their enthusiasm in their studies, strong work ethic and help from our careers advisor, all helped them in securing such fantastic roles within the hospitality industry.

Natalie Tolhopf, Crown’s Careers Advisor, says “I’m so proud of Paige and Danielle for taking action and jumping at opportunities. Their proactive approach and willingness to learn has really helped them in securing these positions”.

Both Paige and Danielle were also part of the Crown Student Representatives Team and helped with organising events and activities for the Crown Community.

The Crown Certificate in International Hospitality – Hotel Services and Reception Operations is a great course for students who are interested in both hospitality and tourism and would like to gain qualifications in both disciplines.

Crown Institute and ex Glenfield College student Samantha Morris has just completed her scholarship with New Caledonia tourism and has landed herself with a fantastic job at wholesaler GO Holidays as one of their Asia consultants.

Samantha completed the Crown Certficate in International, Travel, Tourism and Airline Studies course in August.  From this course she has gained both New Zealand and International qualifications in Travel and Tourism.

Samantha always had a desire to pursue a career in the airline or retail travel sector. It was a former flatmate of Samantha who mentioned her positive experience at Crown Institute; the same person had gone on to pursue a successful career in the airline industry. That was reason enough for Samantha to visit Crown.

“After visiting the school and being shown around, there was no doubt that this was where I wanted to pursue my studies as I had a very positive feeling from the tutors and staff” said Samantha.

Samantha was one of many Crown travel and tourism students who applied for the scholarship with New Caledonia Tourism. Out of the several students interviewed, New Caledonia Tourism was impressed with Samantha’s enthusiasm.

With a view to offering an opportunity to a growing travel professional whilst bringing destination New Caledonia to the foreground of the learning environment, General Manager of New Caledonia Tourism in New Zealand Mr Simon Duffy, founded the scholarship program in 2006 in conjunction with Crown Institute.

“I chose Crown as I felt it was the most professionally run school I had visited; I was also impressed at their graduates’ rate of success finding employment post-study,” says Mr Duffy.

Part of the scholarship package was work experience at the New Caledonia Tourism office and $1000 towards her course costs at the completion of her studies.

Samantha’s years of customer service experience, the scholarship from New Caledonia Tourism partnered up with the qualification from Crown all helped Samantha in getting her dream job.

For almost forty years Crown has been of New Zealand’s leading schools. Locally owned and proudly independent, Crowns style is professional and friendly. Excellent programmes in English Language, Travel and Tourism, Hospitality and Business are on offer at Crown.

Crown is recognised as a quality leader by New Zealand and international employers.

If you or someone you know is looking to take their next step in tourism, travel, aviation or museums training, this is a chance to receive one of four $1,000 scholarships.

ATTTO’s Flying Start scholarships are for secondary school students who have participated in ATTTO Gateway programmes in the 2011 school year. There are two scholarships up for grabs: one for Aviation Gateway students and another for students involved in Tourism or Travel Gateway programmes.

The Next Step scholarship is for any secondary or tertiary student currently studying tourism, travel, aviation or museums who wants to take the next step in their training. Two scholarships are also available at this level: one for aviation students and one for students studying towards tourism, travel or museum qualifications.

ATTTO Chief Executive Elizabeth Valentine says these scholarships are designed to help encourage talented students to further their education and training in ATTTO’s sectors.

“Attracting bright, talented young people into careers in the aviation and visitor sectors is a big challenge for our industries. These scholarships help encourage secondary and tertiary students with an interest in our sectors to continue with their training and choose careers in these exciting industries.”

Looking all glamorous and fabulous our Crown Certificate in International Hospitality- Hotel Services and Reception Operations students loved getting hands on experience on our own Crown flight deck last week!

Crown students had to dress as flight attendants and go through scenarios they would face as a flight attendant.  The re-enactment was the last component of a 2-week online Cabin Crew course and now our students will be awarded a Cabin Crew Ticket Diploma from Cabin Crew Direct.

The Cabin Crew Ticket Diploma is a great qualification to hold and it has given Crown students many opportunities and has opened many doors.  An internationally recognised qualification, students holding this diploma have a distinct advantage when applying for cabin crew roles.

Our students had fun and learnt a lot from experiencing what it is really like to be a flight attendant and got a taste of what their future career maybe like.
