Written by Sally Atkinson on May 14th, 2014.      0 comments

Crown Institute student Beatrice Nyberg is this year’s New Caledonia Tourism Scholarship winner.

Beatrice is originally from Sweden and is currently studying the Crown Certificate in International Travel, Tourism & Airline Studies. She was chosen from a group of eight of her classmates and is the sixth recipient of this inaugural scholarship.

"I am extremely happy to be given the opportunity to get an insight of this part of the tourism industry. The experience and knowledge I will gain from it is incredibly valuable and is something I will bring with me to any future job opportunities." Beatrice says.

Beatrice will work closely with New Caledonia Tourism attending various trade events, industry shows and be based in the offices in Parnell one day a week.

Winning this scholarship and working with Simon Duffy and his team at New Caledonia Tourism will give her an introduction into the Tourism industry at ground level. It will also contribute to the skills she needs to develop in order to achieve her ultimate goal of working as a Customer Service Agent.

“These students are the future tourism industry employees. It is important that they have hands on experience during their studies” says General Manager Simon Duffy. “Working closely with a significant industry partner like Crown Institute of Studies allows us to help prepare these students while at the same time gives us the opportunity to give something back to the industry”

Ciya's great networking opportunities with New Caledonia Tourism

Crown Institute’s 2013 New Caledonia Tourism scholarship winner, Ciya Josephmary has been rubbing shoulders with travel wholesale and retail managers as part of her work experience.

New Caledonia Tourism held their Roadshow a few weeks ago at Stamford Plaza Hotel Auckland.  Ciya was involved in setting up the event and then sat at one of the tables with the other agents for the evening.  She gained a great overview of the destination, as there were twelve presentations from various hotels, activities and roles within New Caledonia and the tourism industry.  Ciya is pictured below at the chocolate fountain.

Ciya also attended a SKAL (International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals) members’ lunch sponsored by New Caledonia Tourism, last month.  She is pictured below with Ian White from Performance Media, Asa Duffy and Lesley Perrie from Planet Travel Marketing.

These have been great opportunities for Ciya to network with industry representatives.  These networking events will help her when she completes her Crown Institute course and is applying for a job in the industry.

Claire Hooton, New Caledonia Tourism Sales and Promotion Coordinator says “Ciya is gaining more and more confidence and was a real help with our Auckland Roadshow and has been great to have in the office”.

Ciya will continue to work closely with New Caledonia Tourism, attending various trade events, industry shows and to be based in the offices in Parnell one day a week.

After last year completing a Certificate Course, which included Tourism Core Skills and Travel Level 3 & 4 National Certificates, Ciya is working towards her Level 5 Tourism Management Diploma.  Ciya’s goal is to become a Customer Service Agent.

2013 New Caledonia Scholarship Winner – Cracencia Josephmary

Written by Amy Tregidga on April 15th, 2013.      0 comments

Second year Crown Institute student Cracencia Josephmary is this year’s New Caledonia Tourism Scholarship winner.

After last year completing a Certificate Course which included Tourism Core Skills and Travel Level 3 & 4 National Certificates, Cracencia is working towards her Level 5 Tourism Management Diploma. Winning this scholarship and having the opportunity to work with Simon Duffy and his team at New Caledonia Tourism will give her an inside into the Tourism industry at ground level and will equip her with the skills she needs to develop in achieving her ultimate goal of working as a Customer Service Agent.

Head of School Travel, Tourism, Hospitality and Business at Crown Institute of Studies, Leanne Annabell is delighted at the high calibre of students applying for the scholarship. “I am so happy for  Cracencia she is a very deserving student,  but it is also really hard to see those who miss out. It is an enormous opportunity for them to be involved in a National Tourism office like New Caledonia and to have some of their tertiary fees subsidised is huge for them and their families” said Leanne Annabell.

Cracencia was chosen from a group of eight of her classmates and is the fifth recipient of this inaugural scholarship.

“It is always good to be able to put something back into the industry and to be able to work closely with a significant industry partner like Crown Institute of Studies” says General Manager Simon Duffy. “These young people are the tour operators, travel agents, customer service staff, hotel managers and potential NTO General Managers of the future so it is important that they are well nurtured by the industry during their studies. Cracencia is enthusiastic and passionate and we look forward to having her with us this year”.

Cracencia will work closely with New Caledonia Tourism attending various trade events, industry shows and be based in the offices in Parnell one day a week.
