Barista Skills

What’s the difference between a latte and a flat white? Why does milk screech loudly in some cafes? Why does the barista roll their eyes when I ask for ‘extra hot’? - These are some of the questions you will find answers to in our barista short courses, designed for students with no barista experience looking to learn the basics of espresso coffee. These courses are highly practical, with about 70% of the class time spent making coffee

Bartending and Mixology

Come and learn the secrets of making the perfect drink! Learn why you shouldn't shake a gin martini, how salt affects a margartia and why too many espresso martinis can ruin your night in these practical courses at Crown!

We use fresh ingredients, commercial bartending equipment and real alcohol (for students over the age of 18) so that you know what is expected of you in a workplace. Presentation, flavour and cleanliness are all covered in these courses, and yes, you do get to drink your work - make it perfect!

Flight Attending and Destination Pacific Islands

Get a taste of this fascinating and fun industry with one of our travel short courses! Our tutors are experienced flight attendants and teachers, and we learn the basics of customer service, emergency procedures, presentation and information about the places you might be travelling to. All flight attending courses are held in our simulated airline cabin here at the Crown campus.

LCQ & Food Safety

The LCQ (Licence Controller Qualification) is a prerequisite if you intend on becoming a duty manager at an enstablishment that sells alcohol. This course teaches you the law, how to evaluate intoxication, how alcohol affects the body and intervention stratergies if a customer becomes too intoxicated.

A Food Safety Certificate is a fantastic qualification to have on your CV, and the knowledge you gain here will be applicable to both work and your own life. Learn how to assess how risky a food is, how to handle, store and prepare food safely to that you keep yourself and your customers happy and healthy.

STAR Barista Course (for High School students)

Come and join us for a 3 day course at Crown Institute of Studies during the school holidays!

You will get to make lots of coffees, visit a roastery and learn how to make 6 standard coffees found in every cafe (and a few extra ones for fun)
